July 12 (UPI) — A South Korean diplomat in Ethiopia is accused of sexually assaulting a female employee working at the Asian nation’s embassy in Addis Ababa.
Seoul’s foreign ministry said Wednesday it has received a report from a woman, a South Korean national, working at the embassy as administrative staff, Yonhap reported.
The staff member alleged a senior-ranking male diplomat raped her, according to a report she filed on Monday, Seoul said.
The case is under investigation, according to a foreign ministry official.
According to the testimony, the woman was sexually assaulted at the diplomat’s residence, following a dinner where the two people consumed three bottles of wine.
The staff member woke up at dawn and called her mother, after receiving a medical certificate from a hospital, according to the report.
The senior diplomat may have been a supervisor, and invited the employee to dinner to thank her for her assistance on a project.
The South Korean diplomat has denied the allegations and has said he was “too drunk to remember what happened.”
The diplomat has been summoned back to Korea for investigations.
The allegations come after a South Korean diplomat was indicted for sexual assault in May.
The former official, who was stationed in Chile, was caught on video making unwanted sexual advances on a local minor.
